Porsche Cars North America, Inc. is issuing a voluntary safety recall on 17,871 Macan models manufactured between March 4, 2014, and October 20, 2015. The sensor mat for the occupancy detection system on the front passenger seat may fail, leading to a possible non-detection of a front passenger. As a result, the front passenger airbag may not deploy in the event of a crash, and, as such, may fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards. However, in the event that the occupant detection mat malfunctions, the airbag warning lamp or "Passenger Airbag Off" lamp will remain activated in order to alert the occupants. Customers will be notified about the recall. The repair is estimated to take about 2.5 hours. No incidents have been reported.
