As you know by now, Google's Android Auto and Apple's Car Play is vastly popular and a very critical option among tech and safety conscious buyers. Oddly enough manufacturers are still keeping this option hidden or like a big secret, and they are very slow to adapt. Only a handful of car makers adapt this new technology almost right-away; even to their 5 year old models, as a free update when you take it in for service, if you have the compatible head unit from the manufacturer.
Google's Android Auto web page has a list of manufacturers and the status of their adaptation of Android Auto. Today, an update to Google's Android Auto site has changed Jeep's state from "Coming Soon" to "Launched."
Jeep kept it "hush hush" to announce which models would be getting Android Auto, but as of today, they stated that the 2017 Compass will come with Android Auto. We don't have the details of the cost of this option, neither standard nor as a paid upgrade, however, we know for sure it's there for you to choose if you are in the market for a new 2017 Jeep Compass. There is no word about older Compass models getting this update. Knowing there is a brand new Uconnect 8.4 head unit out there and older units cannot be upgraded with prior generation Uconnect systems, this answers the question of Android Auto and Car Play compatibility of the older Uconnect head units. Sorry guys!
