The Kia Niro hybrid recently went through its crash tests with EuroNCAP, and the results have now been released by the European safety testing organization. Kia's newest compact crossover scored a 5-star safety rating.
The scores, with optional safety equipment added to the new Kia Niro, were as follows: 91% for adult occupant protection, 80% for child occupant safety, 70% for pedestrian safety, and 81% for Safety Assist.
With standard equipment in place, the scores dropped to 83% for adult protection, 57% for pedestrian protection, and 59% for Safety Assist.
Euro NCAP Frontal Impact takes place at 64 Km/h, 40% of the width of the car striking a deformable barrier. In the Full Width test, 100% of the width of the car impacts a rigid barrier at 50 Km/h. In the side impact, a mobile deformable barrier impacts the driver's door at 50 km/h. In the pole test, the car tested is propelled sideways at 32 km/h into a rigid pole.
